Chebukati Risks a 6 Months Jail Term

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission  chairman Wafula Chebukati and two other commissioners  Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu have been summoned by the Employment and Labour Relations over the suspension of CEO Ezra Chiloba.

The trio has been issued with a 30 day ultimatum and are supposed to explain before the court led by Judge Stephen Radido the reason as to why they disobeyed a court order to allow Chiloba back into office or they risk a jail term of six months.

In an affidavit, Chebukati says that his position in the commission allowed him to do so and the consultations he had done made him suspend the CEO. In a letter written to Chiloba, the chair stated that the suspension was based on clause 3 and 5 of Chiloba’s contract which he is alleged to have violated.

Chiloba was suspended for a second time on July 14 by the commission’s chair which prompted him to go back to the court.
